Aufgaben:
The incumbent will represent the field of hydrology in research and teaching and investigate the ground and surface water and their interactions with the unsaturated zone in relation to the landscape balance of water and matter. The research should emphasis the connections between hydrological and ecological processes and be complementary to the research portfolio of the geo and environmental sciences, including the Bayreuth Centre for Ecology and Environmental Research (BayCEER). The professorship includes management of the University of Bayreuth's Limnological Station. Priority will be given to applicants working in any one or several of the following areas: catchment hydrology, ecohydrology, limnology, climate change hydrology, and hydrology of the saturated critical zone. The spatial scales of investigation should range between the field and landscape scale. Methods should combine field and laboratory experiments with process-based or statistical modelling. Willingness to collaborate within the geosciences and across units including established collaborative research centres (e.g. CRC 1357 microplastics) is expected.
The incumbent will teach basic and advanced hydrology in the BSc / MSc Geoecology, MSc Environmental Chemistry, and MSc Global Change Ecology programmes, and be experienced in supervising final theses (from BSc to PhD programmes). The ability to teach in English and German (within two years of hiring) is expected.
Qualifikationen:
The successful candidate will hold a doctoral degree in the geo, natural, and/or environmental sciences, publish in international high-quality scientific journals, and have additional experience in scientific leadership (e.g. editorial roles, conference organisation, lead in coordinated research efforts, board services). Experience in raising third-party funding, and the willingness and interest in contributing to the university's self-governance and in the Third Mission with external partners, authorities, and the public is expected.
